In “Sometimes I Don’t Like My Child” I made the case that as parents we need to make time to be one-on-one with our kids, be there for them, and take on the responsibility to help them achieve competence, self-control, self-direction, and social skills.
But maybe you’re just too darn busy with work. If there are
any roses around, you would never notice. Well, Baby Boom is here
to tell you to make room for that hobby you put on the back shelf and take that
trip you’ve been putting off for so many years – or find time for your family, or your kid!
If you’ve already read my
review of Essentialism – The Disciplined Pursuit Of Less, you may have some idea
what this movie will teach you.
This movie makes a statement to all those who have lost the
reason why they’re working so hard. Notice how this single event in J.C.’s life
represents a catalyst for change. Instead of it being a baby, she could have
experienced the death of someone close or a serious financial setback. It could
have been an illness that forced her to slow down.
Once J.C. allows the child’s love in, she is able to have
everything she wants, plus those things she never imagined. Those who get caught
up in work are no different than those who lose their way to alcohol, gambling,
etc. They’re all just ways to avoid living life as it was intended.
You can experience your own rebirth with Baby Boom and
become the parent that your kids have always dreamed you could be.
